Lady, the day
we brought her home,
with our Pom, Buster.
7 weeks later ...
"Oh No!"
"Please, Daddy,
make it go away."
Buster pleads.
Can I stay?  I
promise I'll try to
be good and try
to stay out of
trouble.
Who needs napkins ...
when you
have a tongue
like mine?
I'm sorry ...
Can I help you clean it up?
Here's a rag.
You won't get away this time!
Let's play!
Now, look at me
when I am talking to you!
OK, just be that way ...
the chinnies will play with me!
You wanna play?
What's a matter, Lady?
Ooops!
Mom's calling ...
Lunch time ...
Catch you later, Lady!
I know
I hid that bone
somewhere around here.
Hey, Mom,
what can we do?
I'll play the bad guy!
Bang!
You wanna play?
Come on ...
no fair laying down!
You Can't get me!
You win.
Who's
at the door?
Daddy's home!!!
Can Kia come out to play?
Miss Ellie, a pit bull

Keeping watch ...

Momma & Daddy are getting me a puppy of my own!
Her name is 'Her Majesty Raven Alexandra McCraw'.
(But, I'm not to sure about this "Her Majesty" business.)

Below are some pictures of her.
On the evening of July 26th, 2004.  I was instant messaging with Stacey, a good friend.
She told me of the trip she and her husband were making to pick up a Great Dane
puppy the next day.  It was only a little over 270 miles from us.

Bill & I had been discussing getting another dog, so I told him about the one little puppy
that was left.   We  talked and decided we would like to go down to see it. So, off  we went
(279+ miles) in the wee hours of the morning to make it down there by 7:30 a.m.

We had been told it was the runt of a litter of 10.  Lady was so tiny, only 4 pounds and 2
ounces (the normal weight of a 2 week-old Great Dane ~ I would find out later on) and
she had just turned 6 weeks old that day.  To my surprise 7 of the 10 puppies had left
the week before.

Neither of us had ever had a Great Dane, and these were breeders, with registered
Danes, so we thought this must be O.K.   We wanted to do the best for her, so we took a
crash course on the via our computer on how to care for Great Danes.

We learned much ...

#1  Their food had to be no more than 23% protein and 10 to 12 % fat, to help them grow
at a slower rate than smaller dogs.  Otherwise, major problems with their joints will cause
painful problems in the future.
Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul was the only food
that we could find that met these standards.  It worked great for Lady.

#2  Dane puppies should stay with their mom until they are 8 to 12 weeks old.

#3  We would learn much more during the next year about this very special breed ...
most of which, I think everyone needs to know
before they adopt a Great Dane.
