| Giget's Kits Trying Mom's Patients |
As you will see in the chin clip above, kits will fuss, fight
and pay-back!
Momma chin, Giget, has to play 'referee'. She will allow
a little scrapping/scuffeling between the kits, but when
the larger, female kit goes to inflect damage on the
smaller male kit, she breaks it up.
But ... as all pesky little brothers do, he plays pay-back,
when he sneaks all the way around momma and pokes
his sister from the opposite side, while she is not
looking. He then runs clear and waits briefly while
sister moves away. He can then go directly to the teat
she uncovered by separating the fur and starting the flow
of milk. Quite smart for a kit only 10 days old!

Poor Giget! Here we go again ... same two kits ... they
are about to wear Giget out with their constant fighting.
This is where I have to step-in. Both girls are larger
than both boys, by about 30%. I will start separating
them several times a day. The boys need more
nourishment than they are getting, so the girls will be
taken out and they will have play time with me 4 or 5
times a day. In the meantime, the boys have some extra
nursing and momma doesn't have to separate fighting
kits.
Today is day 10 and it is time for Giget and the kits to
have their first dust bath. Giget is healed from the
birthing process and is no longer in season.
Daddy, John-John, will be re-introduced to Giget and
introduced to his kits, IF Giget will allow it. Some will
not allow the hubby to return until after the kits are
weaned.
This is a process that requires you to stay with them for
several hours to make sure the parents are not going to
fight and the dad is not going to harm the kits. Usually
the dad is great about helping to take care of the kits
and will not harm them, but there are exceptions to
every rule.
If Giget is agreeable and allows John-John to return
AND John-John behaves and does not harm the kits, it
will be best for all. Daddy chins will usually be a big
help to the momma chin in caring for the kits. He will
usually help groom them, snuggle and play with them
while momma takes some well deserved rests.
